The Académie

INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE / DESIGN

Teaching methods for interior architecture and design have changed over the past decade.

Choosing the Académie Charpentier means:

To study in one of the best schools of Applied Arts thanks to the recognition of its level 1 diploma in interior architecture and design by the French Ministry of Labour, certified by the French Répertoire National des Certifications Professionnelles (National Directory of Professional Certifications: RNCP – Code NSF 320v). The Académie is also recognised by the ADC (Association Design Conseil)

To work in human-scale studios, individually monitored by teachers who are professionals in their disciplines, To pool skills during shared classes and projects

To open up to the professional market through workshops, contests; partnerships, conferences and mandatory internships

To draw from the school philosophy built on the acquisition of one's own graphic and artistic identity

To improve one's drawing skills or deepen the technique of calligraphy, by participating in complementary workshops at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière

To spend one semester abroad via the Erasmus program (Italy, Spain, Germany, Bulgaria...)

To draw from a network of over 12,000 alumni.

The Académie Charpentier has been the private School of Applied Arts for more than 70 years where future Interior Designers are trained. True to its original values: creativity, humanity, contemporaneity, and enjoying a strong artistic imprint, it has remained a human scale institution. In 1958, it inherited the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, a hub of creative expression and plastic experimentation. The new Head of the Académie Charpentier has been supporting its exploratory work in the field of Applied Arts, while being part of modernity.

The Académie’s educational project, to guide future professionals

Connection between acquisition of skills, creativity and the reality of trades

THE ATTENTION TO THE INDIVIDUALS

The challenge of professional integration in a context where models, techniques and trades are constantly evolving is for each student to develop their vision of the world, their adaptability, their critical thinking and analysis skills.

Students are recognised by their teachers and accompanied individually, yet bearing the importance of group dynamics

THE CONSTANT LINK WITH THE TRADE

The foundation of education lies in the constant liaison with the trades. The educational team at the Académie is composed of professionals, all involved in the development of their trades.

They also represent the link between the students and the actual professional world; they lead them towards their future working life. To prepare them, the Académie Charpentier ensures that the students go on work placements in companies or agencies, and take part in interior design or graphic design competitions and exhibitions. This is supported by partnerships that enable projects implementation in real-life conditions.

TRANSVERSALITY

The Académie Charpentier promotes shared skills across its two departments: interior architecture / design, and art direction / graphic design, and interrelating aspects within its projects and shared lessons. Transversality is a priority. Indeed, Architects must know how to communicate their projects, and Graphic Designers need to be able to work within a space.

THE OPENING ON THE OUTSIDE

A DUAL-PURPOSE EXERCISE

The subjects studied, the researches conducted by the students are suggested or proposed based on real-life data. They are dual-purpose exercises, as much “rehearsals” or simulations than concrete situations and didactic materials.

Conferences given by leading personalities in their fields are opportunities to grasp different visions of today's world, to hear the point of view on a profession, to think in groups then to write individually.
