The Charpentier Academy, a pioneer in sustainable and responsible interior architecture and design

Go learn from nature—that's where our future lies.

Manifesto for a Responsible and Sustainable 21st Century in Interior Architecture and Design.

At the heart of the Academy’s educational philosophy—and this has been the case since its founding—is a focus on each student’s unique artistic expression, fostered through a close relationship between student and teacher, made possible by small class sizes.

Today, building on this legacy, the Académie Charpentier is taking on the major challenge of the current century:preparing its students for a responsible and sustainable professional world.

By now incorporating the latest research on sustainable development into its programs.

  • Biomimicry, defined by CEEBIOS—the European Center of Excellence in Biomimicry in Senlis—as“aunique opportunity for responsible innovation: drawing inspiration from living organisms and leveraging the solutions and inventions they produce, which have been tested by 3.8 billion years of evolution.”

  • The work of Atelier21: Its creation is the result of a long journey that began in Switzerland about fifteen years ago for its founder, Cédric Carles, who is passionate about eco-design and energy innovations. It is part of an effort to build a network of expertise, both in France and abroad, in support of a comprehensive project with an international scope. This multidisciplinary structure enables the firm to address the complexity of the eco-design projects it undertakes and to embrace the field of innovation, including social innovation. It was atAtelier21that the firstSolar Sound System—a sound system module powered by solar and human energy—was developed. Impressed by the Académie Charpentier’s clearly stated commitment to sustainability, Atelier21 entrusted our students with prototyping the Museum of Renewable Energy. It will open in the coming weeks and welcome a diverse audience, including international visitors. The project’s constraints include environmental impact, low costs, and the system’s reproducibility. Other projects with our school are already under consideration.

To mentor our students, renowned professionals who are deeply committed to responsible design and interior architecture will join a faculty composed of architects, interior architects, designers, artists, and others who are already engaged with these issues.
Through lectures and workshops.

Partner companies, which are also committed to the environmental transition, will welcome you during your internships or upon graduation,

With 75 years of experience and a commitment to training professionals who are deeply concerned about the future of the planet, the Académie Charpentier claims to be the first among French applied arts schools to have firmly established a commitment to responsibility and sustainability.
